Since 1992, Help*Works Community Resource (formally Rural Outreach) has provided Livingston County individuals and families who are struggling in poverty with:
• Direct emergency assistance including food, utilities, rent, gas and prescriptions
• Furniture and household items
• Children’s shoes, clothing and diapers for infants
• Minor home repairs and some minor home maintenance education and assistance
• Guidance on budgeting and energy conservation
• Information and referrals to other agencies that might best assist with a client’s needs

Service to Those in Need
Each year, Help*Works Community Resource offers emergency assistance to those in need, providing essentials that many of us take for granted...like diapers, clothes or mittens for our children, emergency gas or prescription money, or one-time crisis assistance to keep the lights on, the cold out and a roof overhead.

Help*Works annually assists more than 1,000 families living at or below the poverty level.  Recently most of those we serve have never had to ask for help before. Referrals to Help*Works come from the Dept. of Social Services, the Dept. of Health, the Office of Mental Health, Salvation Army, churches, and other community agencies and organizations as well as self-referrals.

If you know of someone in need, please contact our office.

Eat for Heat
Every winter, there are families in our community who suffer from the cold because they have trouble paying their heating bills. In 2006, Help*Works staff and volunteers created a fundraising event to raise money for emergency heat assistance. “Eat for Heat” brings people together from all over Livingston County to enjoy a good meal and a support a great cause. If you want more information or would like to be involved, contact Tina Brooks at (585) 658-4466, ext. 12.

Medicine Chest
The Medicine Chest, supported in part by the Kane Fund, is an emergency fund to help those who are dealing with a medical crisis and have no health insurance or the money to get necessary prescriptions.
