VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION
For Catholic Charities of Livingston County
Position Title: Mentor
Program/Department: HOPE Youth Mentoring
Description of Project/Purpose of Assignment: HOPE is a mentoring program that matches youth who could benefit from a positive role model outside of the family. Youth are matched in a 1:1 relationship with an adult who offers them guidance and friendship. The youth range in age from 6 to 14 and are referred from local agencies, organizations and schools.
Outline of Volunteer’s Responsibilities/List of Tasks: Spend 4-hours a month for a period of one year having fun with a child
Training and Support Plan:
Training: a 2-hour interview and a 3-hour training (mandatory)
Support: Program staff always available by phone or e-mail.
Bi-monthly mentor get-togethers (optional)
Skills/Qualifications Needed for Assignment: Must be willing to undergo background checks. Should be someone who enjoys spending time with children/youth.
Time Commitment: 1-year, 4-hours a month (typically on a bi-weekly basis)
Location/Geographic Area of Assignment: Livingston County
Outcome/Goals of Assignment: to place a reliable adult with a youth in Livingston County, becoming their friend and a positive role-model in their life
Reporting required: Monthly (date, location, approximate hours spent together, brief description of activity), a 6 month survey, and a 1 year survey.
