Position Title: Mentor Mom
Program/Department: Community of Caring
Description of Project/Purpose of Assignment:
- Serve as a mentor to young mother in need of support.
- Assist with questions concerning parenting and child development.
Outline of Volunteer’s Responsibilities/List of Tasks:
- Mentor will be matched with a young mother in need of support.
- Meet with young mother a minimum of 4-6 hours per month.
- Provide support through face to face meetings and telephone contact.
- Possibly provide transportation to necessary appointments.
Training and Support Plan:
- Match will be monitored by CCLC staff member.
- Initial training program will be provided.
- Ongoing support will occur on a monthly and as needed basis.
Skills/Qualifications Needed for Assignment:
- Female with parenting experience preferred.
- Can pass a background and child abuse registry check.
- Own transportation and valid driver’s license.
Time Commitment:
- 4-6 hours a month for a minimum of 1 year.
Location/Geographic Area of Assignment:
- Matches are available in most Livingston County locations.
Outcome/Goals of Assignment:
- To assist a young mother to feel more confident in her parenting skills and to be an ongoing source of support in her life.
Reporting required:
- Monthly check in with CCLC staff member.

- The feeling of making a connection with a young woman and her family and providing them with support.

- This program is currently in the initial start up phase.
