VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Sewing/Craft Instruction Volunteer

 

Program/Department  Connections

 

Description of Project/Purpose of Assignment: Participants of our Tuesday & Friday quilting groups, along with the Wednesday & Thursday general crafting and sewing individuals receive instruction in sewing, quilting and production of hand made crafts.  Items are sold in the Connections storefront to raise funds to support the program.  The Quilting groups meet 10 AM -2:30 PM on Tuesday and Friday.

 

Outline of Volunteer’s Responsibilities/List of Tasks: Volunteers will help to guide participants in structured lessons taught by volunteers and/or Program Director. One on One and class activities are done. Individual work and groups up to 10 participants at times.  Oversee completion of projects, offer guidance and encouragement and perform quality control assessment.

 

Training and Support Plan: Individual volunteer orientation is given before a volunteer begins instructing participants.  Volunteer manual. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:30 am on the day they are helping to become familiar with the day’s activities.

 

Skills/Qualifications Needed for Assignment: Basic knowledge of crafting and sewing is a plus.  Ability to create a safe, supportive environment for the participants. 

Must be willing to undergo background checks.

 

Time Commitment: Quilting groups meet 10am -2:30pm on Tuesday and Friday.

Weekly and sporadic volunteers are needed.  Special project volunteers are welcome and encouraged as well. Flexible schedules available.

 

Location/Geographic Area of Assignment: 51 Main Street, Mount Morris, NY

 

Outcome/Goals of Assignment: Lead participants to produce salable goods while increasing their skill level, employment readiness and their self-confidence.

 

Reporting required: Volunteer assessments of participant projects are done for each project and kept in participant file.  Time log.
