VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Short-term Respite Caregiver
Program/Department: Faith in Action
Description of Project/Purpose of Assignment:
Provide short-term respite care through friendly visits, for family members caring for their frail loved ones. The purpose is to give the family member a break so they can run an errand, go grocery shopping, or have time for themselves to relax. May be matched with someone who has dementia, Alzheimers, or is in the final stages of life.
Outline of Volunteer’s Responsibilities/List of Tasks:
To be established at Faith in Action Volunteer Orientation
Training and Support Plan:
Initial one hour training by Faith in Action Program Director and ongoing support via telephone or e-mail.
Skills/Qualifications Needed for Assignment:
§ Good listener
§ Caring and kind
§ Dependable and responsible
§ Enjoy being around the elderly
§ Background check
Time Commitment:
§ Flexible—to be determined by volunteer and family of care receiver.
Visits are usually weekly or bi-weekly; 2 to 3 hours for each visit
Location/Geographic Area of Assignment:
§ Close to home! Volunteer are matched in their home town. (Livingston County) It’s about neighbors helping neighbors.
Reporting required:
§ Monthly report of activities to Faith in Action director
